7th Seal From Fargo Band Family Tree Jump to: navigation, search

7th Seal is a Fargo metal band which is stylistically somewhere between British bands like Iron Maiden and thrash/speed bands like Megadeth or Testament. Heavy emphasis is placed on harmonized guitar leads and stacked arrangements. Initially, 7th Seal was primarily a cover band. Over time, the emphasis went toward original music.

7th Seal was formed in the fall of 2004 by Travis Woyen, Troy Salonen, Jim Detenancour, and Dave Stensland. It took several months of playing before the group had a name. After batting about several names (Veracity, Brainhammer, and many which were soon forgotten) for months, they finally selected "7th Seal" shortly before their first gig, which was at the Eastgate Lounge in March of 2005. This was followed by a spate of opening shows through the end of that year. As of this point, there was one original song (called "Original Sin") that was played at every show.

In March, 2006, they parted ways with drummer Jim Detenancour and hired Bobby Schatz. From May through November, 2006, they played shows at the Aquarium, Rick's Bar, Hooligans, and the Nestor. After playing the Nestor in November, they broke for the holidays and to record their debut album.

"Conspiracies of Thieves", 7th Seal's debut album was recorded by the Diversion Scene's Sean Murray at 7th Seal's rehearsal spot. Recording commenced on December 15th, 2006 and was finished on February 4th, 2007.

The vocals for the demo version of "Dusk", which spent months on the band's MySpace and was on an FM Seen sampler, were recorded in Travis' car by a stubble field south of Moorhead, because he sings so loudly it was the only place that it wouldn't bug anybody. Troy owns Red Star Guitar. Dave (bassist) got engaged at 7th Seal's CD Release Party on April 13, 2007. Travis nearly played in the 2006 reincarnation of Jet Set Ready. 7th Seal has share the stage with the following bands: Sons of Poseidon, King of the Dead, the Diversion Scene, Vindictus, Beggar's Cut, Descry, Methuselah, and Dropswitch among others.
