Presumptuous there, no? While whoever wrote the opening screed is questioning the 'talent' of mr. lang in a veiled manner (and, for the matter, "even some hippie/folksy stuff"), I do not believe the philosophy of not including mr. lang has anything to do wtih musical taste (beacause there are countless listings for bands chad james was a part of, and you know, they all sucked). The larger implication there is that Mr. Lang contributed little to a local scene, then again, I noticed a page for the replacements, so really, I don't understand any of this. | Presumptuous there, no? Add notes/comments to any discussions on this page. From time to time I, or whoever feels the page has gotten overcommented, will condense discussions down to a consesus view. The purpose of this page is to toss out ideas and to document current best practices for the FBFT (though that seems like it should exist on it's own page...we'll have to figure that out).
Kid Jonny Lang et al
Someone posted something asking whether or not Jonny Lang should be added. Unless you're really set on adding him to the FBFT, I don't think it's worth the effort. Jonny Lang may have been a Fargo musician, but I don't think he really fits the bill for the FBFT. FBFT has slowly developed to cover primarily rock music of the independent variety in genres ranging from punk to metal to indie to screamo to even some hippie/folksy stuff. It seems to me that despite his origin, he was never really even involved with the music in these "scenes" no matter how wide we cast our nets.
Re:above - While I have no more love for Johnny Lang than anyone else and would rather he not be included, in the interest of maintaining a professional air about this, and following the rather loose rules set forth [a band or musician, from this area], shouldn't a page be made for him anyway? This is supposed to be a collectively maintained, accurate database of Fargo/Moorhead musicians, not just "Fargo/Moorhead musicians that I like." Besides, stuff like this [how much he sucks] could be dealt with in the discussion tab of the page.

While it is true that you won't catch the organizers of the FBFT blasting Johnny Lang tunes, the reason we haven't bothered to devote a listing to Mr. Lang is, as Lee said, because he contributed little (if anything) to the F/M music community, or "scene," if you will... It's difficult to know where to draw the line, but we have to pick a point somewhere... otherwise the FBFT would probably include a bunch of dead links to bands that cover Scorpions tunes at Specs...
As for the Replacements, they're just a part of the expansion (Twin Cities, Grand Forks, etc.) that people have requested. We're just waiting for a good place to add Slave Raider. Yeaaaah! -ryan
Thank you
First off, thank you for visiting the FBFT and (hopefully) taking part in its growth. Sitting here and looking over it (mind you we're only up to L as I write this), I'm floored at the number of bands (125+ counting in the 90s alone) and the depth of all of it. We've seen many, if not most of these bands, but I don't think any of us were aware of how massive this actually is... hell, who would've thunk that Chad James wasn't the only person to have played in 40 million bands? It's massive folks!

any thoughts on putting up relevant flyers?
