The use of household bleach for toenail fungus kill nail fungus is actually one of the most common home remedies for the treatment of toenail infection. It is also a cheaper alternative to expensive medications, creams and fungal ointments. Bleach cannot only treat and eliminate fungal growth. It can also be used for prevention.

Proper use of bleach is important to make it effective in treating toenail fungus. Some steps need to be followed as well. First is to make sure to trim the toenails without cutting the nails from the sides. Trimming should be done from front going to the sides. It is also best to file the nails from above in order to make them thinner. This will prepare the nails for treatment. Second is to use diluted bleach to treat thinned toenails. The suggested solution consists of one tablespoon of bleach per one gallon water. Finally, soak the feet and toenails in the solution for 15 to 20 minutes daily for about a month. Doing this once in the morning and once in the evening also helps to speed up the healing process.

There are some that suggest a stronger solution to prevent and treat toenail fungus more effectively and faster. The solution consists of one part of bleach per 100 parts water. This is ideal for prevention. Soaking your feet in this solution can cleanse and refresh your feet. To treat toenail fungus, one part bleach mixed with 10 parts water is strong enough to kill and stop the growth of fungi as well as to remove toenail stains.

After soaking the feet in bleach solution, dry them up thoroughly with a towel which should be laundered immediately after use as bleach is a harmful chemical. You may also use a hair dryer to dry both feet completely. Make sure to remove all residues or use an antiseptic powder which will absorb the moisture. Bleach for toenail fungus is not just an effective home remedy. It is also good for prevention and to maintain proper foot hygiene.
