Kilimanjaro was begun by several MSU individuals in 1990, including Senegalese national Ibrahim Diallo who played keyboards. The lead singer was Rodrigo (last name I forget). The drummer and bass player - I forget their names. I know they sometimes jammed with Munib (last name I forget), an Ethiopian bass player who kicked ass. I remember the first time they were scheduled to play Kirby's (their first-ever gig), they cancelled and Kirby Kuklenski was PISSED. He was only going to pay them $100, but they only had three songs ... and needed more practice.

The band later played Kirby's quite a few times, and Detroit Lakes, and elsewhere. They had many dancefloors filled up when they played their original songs. They labeled themselves as a "world beat" band, borrowing from rap, reggae and African sounds.
