Are you a vegan or an striving vegan trying to conclude is honey vegan? First of all I would like to applaud you on taking the steps on accomplishing your own investigation to find out is honey vegan. I remember when I first become a vegan about 11 years ago. I asked the same question; is honey vegan?
I was a vegetarian for 2 years before becoming vegan and honey was one of the things that I really enjoyed. When I did my first research I had was advised from hardcore vegans that honey wasn't vegan!
Not True
But I believed what I had listened to because I wanted to remove all animal products so I stopped using honey. As I grew as a health practitioner and I did more study I began to realized that honey IS actually vegan! Is Honey Vegan? The Facts
A vegan is a human being that doesn't eat any animal (or insect) or animal by products. Is honey vegan? Absolutely! Because honey is not made of bees; bees make honey.
The Method: How is Honey Vegan
Bees aggregate nectar from flowers and then sock away them in a special sack. This sack is called a honey stomach. This is an uncanny name because there is no digestive process that occurs in this honey stomach and it is different from their actual stomachs that they use for digestion.
After gathering or amassing nectar from at least 100 flowers the bee returns the nectar back to the hive and house bees retrieve the honey from the bee sacks (honey stomachs). The bees masticate the honey for 30 minutes breaking it down with enzymes into a simple sugar. They spread the honey between the honeycombs and fan them with their wings in order to dry them. As they dry most of the liquid evaporates and it leaves a thick sap; honey. The honey is retrieved from the honey comb and if you are working with local humane bee keepers the bees are protected and honey is left for their consumption as well.
