- Brad Larson took drum lessons fromJoe Bailey frequently, in the basement of Kenny's Music Shop.
- The death of Monte Zak on August 19, 2004 brought the abrupt end of the band.
- The band Dieana spawned directly from The Shmelbys.
- Name was a spinoff of another Grand Forks band, The Schmelbys.
