As far as I remember, MadonnaRama was the brain child of Phil Leitch. It was a show in which all the bands were required to perform Madonna cover songs. It was also a contest of sorts. The winner received a variety of prizes including various Madonna records (vinyl of course) and various gift certificates to local establishments.
Bands
A band originally called Young Latino Men (Kemmer, Fasen, Danforth, Kjer) was formed specifically for this show. During the course of the show, they changed their name to Mandonna and actually won the contest. (Not because of their name.)
