Does hellfire, damnation mean anything to you? These guys are a punk/metal tour de force who pioneered this territory long before the Fucking Champs, Tight Bros From Way Back When or similar tongue-in-cheek, metal-infused indie bands came around. Although they've never officially broken up, it seems like they only resurface for the occasional show. Fargo loves them.
__NOTOC__

Members
*John Peterson (drums)
*Karl Qualey (guitar, vocals)
*Randy Dever (bass)

Highlights
*They opened for Bad Company and Ted Nugent at the Fargodome.
*They opened for Mike Watt in the Civic Center basement (with Ugly Stick).
*Seeing JP set his cymbals on fire is a truly magical Fargo rock experience.
*Some kid broke his arm or leg or something at a show at the Bowler.
*When they opened for Zeke, Blind Marky Felchtone was apparently in awe of them.
*They played a version of "Deck The Halls" at a Rock N' Roll Xmas concert where they simply repeated "Don we now our gay apparel" over and over again.
*Played for a long-ass time in Fergus Falls one night back around 1994. Came out in ET masks and rocked downtown Fergus Falls until all the kiddies had to go to bed. Put up with letting Jim Lee of Grammahead ride around in their van.
*You know you've hit the rock'n'roll nail on the head when someone spray-paints your band name on something. I swear I saw something like this near Island Park at one point or another. -ryan
*Didn't they change their name to "Computer" for one or two shows? I thought they did this when they opened for Bakamono at the Coffee Club.
*From Carothers Brothers #5, "The Definitive Guide to Everything Punk Rock in the Moorhead/Fargo Area": Orange 17 - you know, if they didn't have short hair I could mistake these boys for Poison.
*Played a rock opera tribute to Galileo when they opened for Karp.
*Incited a Riot at Rock n Roll Xmas 97 which was one of the last shows ever at the bowler

Shows
Some of the best I can remember:

*Early Spring 1994? Elks Club w/ Hammerhead and Godheadsilo - a crazy crazy show.
*Late May 1995 At some basement club in Grand Forks, first time I heard 'Juggernaut' live.
*September 1994 at the Bowler with Free Jessie and Haul and Pathos. I think that kid broke his arm at this one. incited a riot and the cops came
*December 1997 at Rock and Roll Christmas at the Bowler, with a ton of bands, probably the best show I saw them play. incited another riot and that was pretty much the last local show to be played there.
By far one of the best bands ever in fargo. period, not up for discussion.

*December 1997 at Rock and Roll Christmas at the Bowler, with a ton of bands, probably the best show I saw them play.
Bar none the WORST band i've ever seen.Absolute shit!

Necktie Suicide started out of the ashes of two prominent bands in the Fargo, ND area; Jared (guitar) and Justin Norris (drums) from Blood Dries Black and Andrew Hansen (bass), Steven Smedshammer (guitar) and Jarret Vosler (vocals) from Invividly.
After playing only a few shows together, Jarret lost interest in the band, forcing the other members to make a change. Without a vocalist, the band embarked on a short tour where the other members started to let their voices be heard.
Andy, Jared and Steve picked up the vocal duties. After playing over a hundred local and regional shows in a year and a half, the band felt the need for another change. They recruited A.J Anderson to take over on lead vocals. In the fall of 2005 Jared quit the band. they replaced him with Luke Bodighimer who has proven to be a great addition to the band. shortly after Luke Bodighimer decided that school was something he should focus on he decided to leave the band. enter Cameron White who took up the guitar duties. Justin Norris decided that raising his family was more important than being in the band and rightfully so. Then along came Richie aka the Filipino Fury. with the new line up in place they continue to carry on.

High Plains Reader 8.25.05
Metals a bitch; a stubborn, rigid creature that occasionally reproduces and spawns varying sub sects, but dangles the possibility for creative interpretation above its practitioners like its taunting a gorilla with a banana. Some artists have strong enough calf muscles to make the jump; the rest either say,"To hell with it!" and stay where they are during the duration of their career, or travel even lower downt he slope as if running from the big, bad originality goblin (cough...Slipknot...cough).

The Thing about Necktie Suicide is that they have legs like wallabies. "Bearing Witness to the Fall of Rome"--the bands debut EP--is a five-song operetta of men leaping through the air, and tearing apart an empire when they touch back down. A treatise on war, culture, and misinformation that ties it all together, "Rome" is like attending a dinner with a brain trust and watching the room explode into fisticuffs. Havoc isnt the point; its frustration that can no longer be kept quiet, and vitriol with a doctorate.

Its also wonderfully manic music. Everything comes in layers (the guitars alone on "Apologies Made Without Response" are stacked like skyscrapers), as if someone just relieved themselves all over Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound."

"Rome" cuts, changes, and ducks under the cover of night before you are sure of what you have just seen. Singer A.j Anderson delivers each song with the right amount of brutality as the remaning four members of this metal mob march through other great cuts like "Someone" and "Shotgun Divorce Settlement."
Like Poison the Well without a Swedish production team, or Thursday finally becoming too pissed for emo to hold them any longer, Necktie Suicide is why you should never give up on heavy music, even when it seems like heavy music has given up on you.
If you think a name like Necktie Suicide sounds harsh, listen to the Fargo group’s new EP, “Bearing Witness to the Fall of Rome.” The opener, “Apologies Made without a Response” features more screams than a slaughterhouse, while tracks like “Shiver” and “Blindfold” pound out hooks like a heavy-weight grudge match. The five-song CD isn’t for everyone, but in 25 minutes the quintet crunches out a polished bit of heavy metal. John Lamb Fargo Forum
