I remember seeing them at Coffee Club a number of times and they did covers. I remember them covering Beastie boys "Sabotage", but they mostly did grungy items like Pearl Jam. I remember them maybe covering Tool. I remember the singers name was Joel and Derek Wilde was in a band called Girls On Film that played strictly at a couple Moorhead High School events (Twigstock) with one of the guys that was in Gecko. They also had a sticker that me and Kris Delaney used to make fun of that said Gecko PAIN and thats it. -Preston

I can't believe that someone out there actually remembers Gecko... thanks for the writeup.

After Gecko, I moved to Red Wing for about a year. While there I recorded some stupid songs under the name "Fur". From there, we moved around to various cities in MN until I wound up in Hutchinson. I joined a band called "Clover" in 1999. We're a basic rock and roll cover band, actually fairly well known in this area of the state. We play a lot of bars and street dances around the area, we're at Litchfield VFW quite often if you're in the area... The manager/guitarist of the band has been playing for 40 years or so and is a member of the MN music hall of fame. Along with that, I teach high school biology here in Hutchinson. Drop me a line if ya want!
Back in '95, Dan Johnson reunited some of the guys from the Penguins and put out an album under the name "Morton Zoe". The album's title was "Diaries of an American Dork". The first track on it was a Penguins tune called "A Love Life". I was lucky to see them perform some of their tunes at the Coffee Club that year. I was hoping they'd put out some more albums, but I haven't seen any yet.
